Looking for things to do with dogs in Seattle?
Of course you are! After all, there’s only three requirements if you want to thrive in Seattle: you must love rain, coffee, and dogs. An oft-touted fun fact around here is that Seattle is home to more dogs than kids. Whether or not that’s actually true, it cannot be denied that dogs are everywhere in the Emerald City. Still, you may be looking for something a little different to do with your BFF (best furry friend) this weekend. We gathered up the most fun and unique options!
Here are our top 10 things to do with dogs in Seattle:
1. Bring your dog to a Mariners game
Bark at the Park is one of our favorite summer activities to do with our furry friends in Seattle. Every year T-Mobile invites your dog to join you at a handful of Mariners games, after which the two of you get to circle the bases together. There’s one more 2023 Bark at the Park game coming up on September 11—get more info here!
2. Explore the best dog parks in Seattle
Seattle is home to 14 off-leash dog parks and areas, so if Fido needs to run around in nature with other pups you have plenty of options. Our favorite off-leash dog park in Seattle by far is in Magnuson Park. This off-leash area is 8.6 acres, fully fenced in, and access to Lake Washington for dogs who love to swim. Dog heaven! There’s also a small/shy dog area within the park.
3. Take your dog on a brewery date
Seattle is in general a very dog-friendly city, and you’ll find that to be especially true at its many breweries. Most breweries in Seattle have ample outdoor seating that dog lovers take advantage of year-round. Ballard in particular is known for being a great neighborhood for brewery hopping with your pup.
4. Visit these dog-friendly restaurants and bars in Seattle
If you’re looking to eat or drink indoors with your doggo, your options will be a little more limited. That’s why we put together this helpful guide of dog-friendly restaurants and bars in Seattle. Bone appetit!
5. Spoil your pup with a sweet treat
Maybe it’s your dog’s birthday or gotcha day and you want to celebrate. We recommend taking them to The Seattle Barkery for a custom Hound Dog Cake or some other handmade dog treat. They have four locations around Seattle, including a shop in South Lake Union and a treat truck in Magnuson Park.
6. Get your dog’s portrait taken
This is an amazing gift for a fellow pet parent or for your own home! You can take your dog to Say Woof, a Seattle dog photography studio, to have their portrait taken. They offer a variety of photography packages and donate a portion of the proceeds to animal shelters.
7. Spend an afternoon at Green Lake
Green Lake is popular among dog owners because its flat three-mile loop makes for the most scenic and relaxing dog walk year-round. You can even rent paddle boards at Green Lake and go out on the water, if your pup is into that sort of thing. Just be sure to always check Seattle.gov first for any news about local toxic algae before you let your dog go swimming.
8. Take your dog on an ice cream cruise
Seattle Water Tours offers a weekend ice cream cruise around Lake Union that is dog-friendly! Of course, the ice cream is for the humans only. Get all the details on the Seattle Water Tours website.
9. Go shopping together
If you’re shopping for supplies and treats for your furry friend, Seattle has plenty of pet stores. Our favorite, however, is Wally Pets in Wallingford. This independently-owned pet store is beloved by locals for its knowledgeable staff and friendly, personalized service.
If you’re shopping for yourself but want to take your BFF with you, University Village is the place to go. This outdoor shopping plaza in the U-District is great for window-shopping on sunny days with your dog, and some of the stores are dog-friendly.
10. Take your adventure buddy on a ferry ride
Leashed dogs are allowed on the outside deck of Seattle’s ferries. You can take a round-trip ferry ride to enjoy the views and fresh air, or make a longer trip out of it and explore nearby islands such as Bainbridge or Vashon Island.
