According to the study conducted by Online Solitaire, Seattle won top marks for nerd central thanks to several factors. The presence of tech giants such as Microsoft and conventions such as PAX West and Emerald City Comic Con help nerd culture thrive here. We also have lots of indie cinemas, board game cafes, indie bookstores and book clubs, record stores, and even a pinball museum. And don’t forget about the Museum of Pop Culture, where you can learn about everything from sci-fi movies to video games.
Seattle beat out other geeky West Coast cities such as Portland and San Francisco.

The methodology for this study involved analyzing the search volume in each city and state for “ten topics traditionally associated with nerd culture,” such as cosplay. Population size was taken into account when analyzing the data to ensure a fair comparison.
