Condé Nast Traveler has released their list of “The 23 Best Places to Go in the U.S. in 2023” and Seattle earned a spot on the list! We’re not surprised (although we may admittedly be biased) to hear that Seattle was named one of the best places to visit in 2023. We can think of many reasons why Seattle is a great place to experience any year. Condé Nast Traveler had some very specific reasons for nominating Seattle as a place to travel to in the new year, however.
Read on for all the details!
According to Condé Nast Traveler, Seattle is one of the best places to go in 2023 because of one word: reinvention. “If you haven’t visited [Seattle] since the pandemic, you’ve got some catching up to do,” they say. They name three areas of Seattle in particular that are worth visiting in 2023 to experience all the change taking place: the Central District, the South Lake Union/Denny Triangle area, and the Seattle waterfront.
The Central District is a historically Black neighborhood in Seattle that “is busy reestablishing its African American heritage through art, culture, and gastronomy.” They recommend visiting the CD to experience murals, music, and Black-owned restaurants such as Simply Soulful, Métier Brewing Company, and Ms. Helen’s Soul Bistro (and we’ll throw in our suggestion of Communion as well!). Another exciting reason to check out Seattle’s Central District in 2023 is the long-awaited reopening of the Northwest African American Museum.
Condé Nast Traveler also called out “the dense, Amazon-led modernization of the high-rise Denny Triangle district” and recommended staying at Astra, one of the coolest new Seattle hi-tech boutique hotels located in South Lake Union.
Finally, they praised the “blossoming public spaces of the waterfront.” Seattle has been hard at work taking down the Alaska Way Viaduct, building a pedestrian walkway between Pike Place Market and the waterfront, adding green spaces and waterfront parks, and more. You can read our coverage of Seattle’s new waterfront for more details.
If you have been thinking about making a trip to Seattle consider this your sign! And if you’ve been trying to convince a friend or loved one to come to our beautiful city, send them this!
