Looking to take a relaxing getaway this winter? Travel + Leisure just compiled a ranking of the most scenic winter train routes in the US, and not one but two Seattle train routes made the list. Both routes depart from Seattle but each offers something uniquely special.
Read on for all the details!
The first Seattle train route, ranked at number five on the list, is Amtrak’s Seattle and Canadian Rockies Winter Discovery route. This epic train trip from Seattle is one you’ll want to take if you want to lean into this time of year with a winter wonderland adventure. During this nine-day trip that takes you from Seattle to Calgary, you’ll get to explore Vancouver, BC, see views of the Canadian Rockies, visit Jasper National Park, and even take a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain. Be sure to pack plenty of sweaters!
The other Seattle train route, ranked at number nine on the list, is Amtrak’s Coast Starlight train. This is a shorter train trip better suited to a brief getaway. You’ll want to jump on the chance to take this train ride from Seattle if you’re over winter weather and in need of some sunlight. This year-round daily route between Seattle and LA takes 35 hours total. You’ll start the trip admiring the beauty of the snowy Cascade mountain range, then make your way down the Pacific Ocean coastline as you pass through Oregon and Northern California, until finally arriving in sunny Los Angeles.
It’s so hard to choose between the Winter Discovery train and the Coast Starlight train. Let us know which one would be your pick this winter!
