The Amtrak Cascades train from Seattle to Vancouver, BC is returning earlier than expected!
You may recall that Amtrak announced in May that its Seattle to Vancouver route was being further delayed. The popular Northern leg of the Cascades route has been on pause since May 2020 and hasn’t reopened yet. The last announcement was that the delay was expected to continue until December 2022 due to staffing shortages.
Now we have good news: Amtrak is resuming service from Seattle to Vancouver this September!
The announcement on the Amtrak Cascades website says: “WSDOT and ODOT are pleased to share that train service between Seattle and Vancouver, BC, will resume in September 2022. Earlier plans called for a December return to Canada, but Amtrak was able to advance the schedule. Stay tuned for further details.” There was no explanation given for the accelerated schedule but it appears that they were able to fulfill all of their staffing needs earlier than expected.
We’ll be sure to post an update once we know the exact date in September, but you should probably start planning your fall weekend trip to Vancouver now. Don’t forget your passport!
