Say goodbye to the “Galaxy Gold” Space Needle paint color.
We’ve been loving the Space Needle’s new vibrant shade ever since it was painted last year for its 60th anniversary. The shade “Galaxy Gold” was the original color of the Space Needle’s roof back in 1962. Although it’s admittedly more orange than gold, the new Space Needle color really grew on us ever since its makeover in April 2022.
Now that the year-long anniversary celebration is over, it’s time to say goodbye to “Galaxy Gold.” This May, the Space Needle paint color will revert back to “Astronaut White.”

The Space Needle roof will be painted white again this May. The honor of painting the first coat will go to the top fundraisers of Base 2 Space. This annual charity event involves climbing the Space Needle stairs and the proceeds benefit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. As a reward for raising the most money, the top fundraisers get strapped into a harness and lay down the first coat of paint on the Space Needle’s roof.
