Have you been striking out in your current city’s dating scene? You might want to try looking for love in Seattle.
According to a new study from Zillow, Seattle is one of the top ten cities in the US for single people. They used data to rank cities in terms of desirability for singles. As it turns out, singles in Seattle enjoy an advantage over singles in other cities for several reasons.
Read on for more details about the study!
To create the ranking, Zillow looked at data on rental affordability, available rental listings, and the density of singles in an area. Seattle came in at number eight on the list.
The other cities in the top ten were (in ascending order) Boston, Washington D.C., Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Denver, Milwaukee, Austin, and finally, Wichita, Kansas as number one. Yep, that’s right: 40% of the cities on the list are located in Texas. If the singles in Seattle aren’t to your taste, perhaps consider moving to the Lone Star State next.
But let’s talk about Seattle. You may be surprised to see its inclusion on the list if you know how expensive housing can be in Seattle (the answer: pretty darn expensive, especially if you’re single). Zillow acknowledged that after Boston, Seattle has the second-most expensive rental market on the list. However, Seattle also boasts the second-highest median income for singles. So chances are good that you’ll be able to afford the cost of your one-bedroom or studio apartment while you search for The One.
Worried about the Seattle freeze? The rumors of Seattleites’ frigid demeanor are largely exaggerated. You’ll find that there are lots of great ways to meet other singles in Seattle, whether you love hiking and being outdoorsy, enjoy exploring new restaurants and breweries, or like to spend your nights seeing live music and going out dancing.
So if you’re looking for love and considering a move, Seattle should be on your short list. After all, it worked for Tom Hanks in Sleepless in Seattle.
