Read on for all the details!
In this ranking of sustainable cities, Seattle was the #1 in the United States and #11 in the world. Other US cities that made the list were San Francisco at #15 (giving it the second-place spot behind Seattle in the States), Portland at #19, and Los Angeles at #25.
The top five most sustainable cities in the world were ranked as Montreal, Paris, Auckland, Vancouver, and Reykjavik. Meanwhile, Detroit rounds out the bottom five on the list as the least sustainable city in the States.
To create this ranking, Compare the Market looked at factors in each city such as the use of renewable energy sources, air quality, and the number of parks. Additionally, “all of the most sustainable cities on [the] list have action plans currently in place to help reduce emissions, which has resulted in them scoring so highly.” Since 99% of Seattle’s energy is sourced from renewables, it scored the highest out of all the cities in the United States.
