The Seattle Seahawks are time-traveling back to the 90s! They’re kicking off the 2024 season at Lumen Field this Sunday, September 8, 2024. And they’re doing it in true retro style! The Seahawks announced on Monday that they will wear the fan-favorite 90s throwback uniforms when they take on the Denver Broncos this weekend.
What is the Seahawk’s throwback uniform?
The old-school uniform designs have quickly become the preferred uniform for many Seahawk fans. They represent the team’s roots since they are the first uniform design worn by the Seahawks. The 1990s was also a pivotal time not only for the Seahawks but also for the city of Seattle. The team wore the classic uniforms in their very first season in 1976 through the end of the 2001 season, so they bring back a lot of memories for many long-time fans.
The new throwback uniforms combine the past with the present. They pay tribute to the original color scheme and design by featuring the classic silver helmet, silver pants, and royal blue and apple green jerseys. But they also incorporate the latest materials and technology for the modern game.
When did they first debut the throwback uniforms?
The iconic throwback uniforms made their debut last season, and the Seahawks wore them twice that year. The team debuted the throwbacks in a 24-20 home win over the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 29, 2023. They then wore them again in a 41-35 loss at Dallas against the Cowboys on Nov. 30, 2023.
When will they wear the throwback uniforms this season?
This 2024 season debut will be the first of two times that the Seahawks will wear the throwback uniforms this year. First, they’ll face off against the Denver Broncos this Sunday. Then, the iconic retro uniforms will be worn again when the Seattle Seahawks take on their division rival, the San Francisco 49ers, on Thursday Night Football in Week 6 at Lumen Field.
