All the way back in June 2022 we shared the news that Seattle won its bid to be a host city for the 2026 World Cup. The matches will be hosted at Lumen Field, which is home to the Seahawks, Sounders and Seattle Reign, and can hold up to 69,000 people.
Ever since then, we’ve been waiting for the exact number of Seattle matches and their dates to be announced. In February, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) released the 2026 World Cup match schedule. There will be a total of six FIFA World Cup matches in Seattle in the summer of 2026!
Even if you’re not typically a soccer fan, this news affects you because it’s such a big deal for Seattle. World Cup host cities can expect to have thousands of jobs supported and millions of dollars of revenue pour in. Our city’s bid to host has been in the works since 2015, and it’s estimated that over two billion people will be viewing the Seattle matches.
When will the 2026 World Cup matches be at Lumen Field?
The 2026 World Cup will be held across North America, with matches played in 16 cities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. 11 U.S. cities are set to host the matches, with three on the West Coast: Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Ticket competition will likely be fierce, although FIFA has not yet announced when ticket sales will start. If you don’t plan on trying for tickets to any of the matches, you may want to think about taking a nice vacation away from Seattle during those dates. The city is going to be packed with visitors like never before!
