The history of MarQueen Hotel
Originally constructed in 1918, the MarQueen Hotel began its life as the Seattle Engineering School, where students of Henry Ford trained. These blacksmiths went on to help develop the Model T: the first car that made automobile ownership attainable for the middle class. In the 1990s, the building was converted into a boutique hotel and later underwent a major renovation in 2025. The MarQueen officially opened its doors in 1998, alongside the Tin Lizzie Lounge: a speakeasy bar designed as a nod to the 1920s era in which the building was first established. Echoes of the hotel’s industrial past remain woven into the property’s character today.
The hotel’s new look
In October 2025, the MarQueen revealed a comprehensive restoration, thoughtfully reimagined by Cusack + Co. The firm transformed all 59 guest rooms and suites, as well as the hotel’s shared spaces. The refreshed aesthetic merges the building’s industrial roots with 1920s-inspired details, breathing new life into this Seattle icon while preserving its history.
Tin Lizzie Lounge
Taking its name from the Model T’s nickname, the hotel’s Tin Lizzie Lounge is a cozy, prohibition-style speakeasy bar and restaurant that frequently features live music. The bartenders specialize in crafting authentic Prohibition-era cocktails alongside creative, modern drinks inspired by the same historic period. The lounge is open daily from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Staying at MarQueen Hotel
Located at 600 Queen Anne Ave N in Seattle’s Lower Queen Anne (Uptown) neighborhood, the MarQueen Hotel offers a convenient location within walking distance of the Space Needle, Seattle Center, the Monorail, and Climate Pledge Arena. The property is dog-friendly (for an additional fee) but does not have an elevator, so only first-floor rooms are accessible.
