Summer just got a whole lot more exciting! Claude Monet is arriving at the SAM on July 1.
The legendary Claude Monet will be the Seattle’s Art Museum special guest from July 1. His works of art will be featured in a unique exhibition called “Monet and Étretat.”
This extraordinary exhibition was constructed around the 1885 painting “Fishing Boats at Étretat,” the only Monet in the SAM’s permanent collection. It will have 11 Monet paintings that consider the artist’s engagement with Étretat, a seaside village in Normandy.
As one of his favorite destinations, Étretat was highly relevant to his work. During difficult periods of his life, Monet traveled alone to Normandy and worked undisturbed in more than 80 paintings.
The exhibition will also feature contemporary paintings by other remarkable artists who have worked at the same site, photography, postcards, and other artifacts.
Tickets will only be sold in advance through the SAM’s website.
