An epic Lord of the Rings movie marathon is coming to SIFF Cinema Downtown in Seattle—and movie-goers are encouraged to dress up for it!
Showings of The Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy and The Hobbit Trilogy at SIFF Cinema Downtown begin on February 2 and continue through February 15, with the LOTR Marathon Day taking place on Saturday, February 3. That day’s three-movie marathon starts with The Fellowship of the Ring at 9:00 a.m. and wraps up with The Return of the King starting at 8:00 p.m. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, but at least there will be chocolate popcorn to get you through it!
Tickets for the movie marathon go on sale today—Wednesday, January 10!
SIFF Cinema Downtown is the new name for the recently-reopened Cinerama Theatre. Located in Belltown, this isn’t any ordinary movie theater. Besides the famous chocolate popcorn, it’s known for being one of only two theaters in the world that is capable of screening three-strip Cinerama films on its 97-foot curved screen. If you missed it, you can read more about Seattle’s Cinerama Theatre reopening under the new name SIFF Cinema Downtown.
SIFF Cinema Downtown celebrated opening its doors by showing Wonka over the past few weeks. Thursday, January 11 is the last day to catch Wonka at this theater. Next up is the new Mean Girls, which will be playing at SIFF Cinema Downton from January 11 through February 1.
As for the upcoming Lord of the Rings marathon, you can buy tickets and see the full schedule on the SIFF website. And don’t forget your costume!
