Deep Sea Sugar and Salt is making a big move.
If you live in or near Seattle you’re probably familiar with the cult following of Deep Sea Sugar and Salt. It’s actually our favorite kind of cult: the kind that has cake. This little cake shop in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood often has a long line outside the door as people wait to pick up their cakes, cake slices, and cupcakes to go. Now Deep Sea Sugar and Salt has announced they are moving to a new location in summer 2023.
Read on for all the details!
Deep Sea has been operating out of the historic green house in Georgetown since 2017. They originally began selling cakes out of an Airstream at the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall. Their current shop is so small there is no seating available inside. Instead, they sell their cakes through the window four days a week. There is one line for everyone, whether you preordered your cake or not.
Some of their most popular cake flavors are The London Flog (an Earl Grey cake soaked with a honey and Earl Grey syrup and topped with bergamot mascarpone cream and cream cheese frosting) and the 9LB Chocolate Porter (a rich dark chocolate cake made with a porter beer soak and chocolate ganache).
They also offer rotating seasonal flavors every month. You can try their Passion Fruit Fudge cake in May, their Pistachio Honey Rose cake in June, or their S’mores cake in July just to name a few.
Deep Sea announced that they will be moving the shop to a new space this summer via an Instagram post. Owner Charlie Dunmire shared that not only will they be staying in the Georgetown neighborhood, but they will be expanding in a much larger space that allows for indoor seating: the former Lowercase Brewery taproom.
In addition to adding a pick-up window to streamline to-go orders, Dunmire wrote that they plan to fill the new space with “cake, art, flowers, greeting cards, wrapping paper, plants, wine, coffee, beer and all your beautiful faces.”
We’re excited for the new Deep Sea Sugar and Salt to become a gathering space in Georgetown where we can relax indoors or on a patio with cake and a beverage.
The exact moving date has not yet been announced but Dunmire shared that they will be launching a Kickstarter this April.
