This Sunday, August 17, Seattleites will have the chance to hunt for treasure in a huge neighborhood-wide garage sale. The annual Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day is Seattle’s longest running community-wide garage sale. Over 100 sellers will be concentrated at the garage sale’s hub in Cal Anderson Park.

If you don’t have the time or energy to walk around to all the garage sales in Capitol Hill on Sunday, you can swing by the main event in Cal Anderson Park. Typically, over 150 people bring used clothes, books, furniture, and more to sell—no garage necessary! The hours for the garage sale in the park are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The park is in easy walking distance from the First Hill streetcar, the Link light rail, and several bus stops.
In addition to the sellers in the park, there will also be individual garage sales happening at homes throughout the Capitol Hill neighborhood on Saturday. The hours for these may differ since it’s up to the individuals. You can find these garage sales via the Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day map; we will update this article to share a link to the map once it’s posted!
If you’d like to participate in this Sunday’s Capitol Hill Garage Sale as a seller, it is too late to register to set up your garage sale in the park. However, you can still register a garage sale at your home if you live in Capitol Hill. Once you register, your garage sale will be added to the official map so people can find it.
Here is a statement shared by the organizers about the goal of the event:
The Cal Anderson Park Alliance hosts the Capitol Hill Garage Sale in partnership with the Seattle Parks and Recreation, and the Capitol Hill Seattle Blog with the aim of activating Cal Anderson Park while giving Hill citizens a day to come together, shed some extra belongings, do some recycling and meet neighbors!
You can expect the event to have a lively, friendly atmosphere. There will be music playing in the park during the garage sale. And if you get hungry, you can walk over to the nearby Capitol Hill Farmers Market which runs from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Sunday on Barbara Bailey Way.
This isn’t the only neighborhood garage sale day in Seattle. There is also the West Seattle Garage Sale Day, which had its 20th annual event this past May, and the PhinneyWood Garage Sale Day which takes place every May as well. We’re hoping this event will catch on in even more Seattle neighborhoods, and will be sure to share if so!
