This June, rainbow flags will be flying high in Seattle to celebrate the city’s fabulous Pride festivities that attract over 300,000 visitors every year. This spectacular Candlelight concert is an exciting addition to the parades, picnics and other traditional Pride events that will be taking place in the city this summer. You’ll hear classical renditions of songs from the likes of Janelle Monáe, Frank Ocean, Elton John and other queer icons that have definitely pushed boundaries in the music industry over the years.
As a sea of candles flickers around you, a string quartet will be taking to the stage at AXIS Pioneer Square to give adored songs by queer artists a classical makeover. From Sam Smith’s “Unholy” to Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” the evening’s program is set to honor a host of iconic songs that have sparked conversations and encouraged positive change for the queer community.

Sam Smith, Brandi Carlisle and Stephen Sondheim are just some of the courageous musicians who have used their music to express their queerness in an empowering and fearless way. Not only do these artists incorporate queer themes into their music, but they also openly talk about their sexuality and gender expression to inspire the LGBTQIA+ community and provide them with a well-needed voice.
On June 15th, a string quartet will be taking on songs like Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You” and Elton John’s “Your Song” as well as beloved tunes from musicals like Rent and West Side Story. You’ll find AXIS Pioneer Square in the heart of downtown Seattle just a stone’s throw away from Occidental Square. Housed in the historic 131-year-old Globe Building, this place is an axis point for history, art, culture, photography, and events in central Seattle. There will be two performances on the evening, one at 6:30 pm followed by another at 9:00 pm. The doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start time.
