There is nothing better than a giant flour tortilla with delicious and fresh ingredients inside.
Amazing food inside Pike Place Market? It doesn’t surprise us. A great option for Mexican food lovers is Los Agaves, a small restaurant that was voted to have the best burritos in all of Washington State by the travel magazine Far & Wide.
Not only tourists know about Los Agaves. The Mendez family is well-known among the Seattle market-goers. The restaurant was opened in 2006 by Mexican Chef Jaime Mendez. Originally from Mexico City, Jaime landed a full scholarship to the Culinary Arts School at Seattle Community College 20 years ago, and settled in Emerald City ever since. Inspired by his father’s recipes and with the help of his brothers, he made locals fall in love with Mexican and Latin flavors.
According to Jaime, “The best part of cooking Mexican food in Seattle is seeing the customers first impression when trying traditional dishes. It’s like making them travel to Mexico”.
Jaime’s cuisine is constantly praised for tasting like authentic Mexican food. However, he has modified his recipes so that his ingredients are locally grown. Every dish is full of different and exciting flavors. The menu includes breakfast food like huevos rancheros with handmade tortillas and chorizo burrito, as well as torta de chorizo, popusas de chicharron, tamales oaxaqueños, horchata water and Mexican beer. There are also options for any vegan and vegetarian patrons. In addition to burritos, chilaquiles are the current bestsellers specially for the early birds that have breakfast in the market.
Don’t think twice about visiting Los Agaves in case you haven’t already. Service is friendly, quick and prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food is exceptional. The restaurant offers delivery, takeout and catering for any type of event.
Exciting news for tequila lovers. Jaime also shared with us that they’ll have a Margarita Bar set up to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Bottoms up!
