The Seattle WNDR Museum is closing its doors with no advance notice.
The museum announced its unexpected immediate closure this week in an email and in a message on its website that says:
While we’ve enjoyed welcoming Seattle to experience the joy of WNDR Museum this year, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the doors of our Seattle location effective immediately. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We’ve loved our time in the Emerald City and hope our paths cross again in the future!
Please email seattleinquiry@wndrmusem.com with any questions or concerns.
No reason was given for the closure.
WNDR Museum opened in downtown Seattle less than a year ago in March 2023. This was meant to be the museum’s third permanent location in the US; it also has locations open in San Diego and in its home base of Chicago. According to the museum’s Instagram bio, a Boston location is set to open in early 2024.
So far, there is no mention of the closure on the WNDR Museum social media pages. Any mention of its Seattle location has been removed from the museum’s Instagram bio. The most recent post on the WNDR Museum Instagram page referencing the Seattle location was shared on December 6, urging followers to “grab your tickets.” They were still promoting December events at their Seattle location on their Facebook page on December 5.
WNDR Museum describes itself as “an ever-evolving immersive art and technology experience.” It was voted one of the top ten immersive art experiences in the country by USA Today. The WNDR website recently featured 12 exhibits for its Seattle location.
This is still an evolving story and we will update this post when we have more information.
