History is landing in Seattle this summer! Residents of the Emerald City are getting the rare chance to view some of America’s most important founding documents.
From July 30 through August 16, the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) will host the Freedom Plane National Tour: Documents That Forged a Nation, a special traveling exhibition celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary. Best of all, admission is completely free.
The exhibition marks the final stop on a nationwide tour and gives Pacific Northwest visitors a rare chance to see original founding-era documents before they return to the National Archives. It’s the first time these historic records have traveled together, making this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for local history buffs and curious visitors alike.
On display will be several landmark documents that helped shape the United States, including an original engraved copy of the Declaration of Independence, an early draft of the U.S. Constitution complete with handwritten notes from the Constitutional Convention, the Treaty of Paris that officially ended the Revolutionary War and recognized American independence, and the Senate’s annotated version of what became the Bill of Rights. The exhibition also includes other Revolutionary-era documents that highlight the nation’s path to independence and constitutional government.
While admission is free, you’ll need to reserve a timed-entry ticket in advance. MOHAI says demand is expected to be high, so it’s a good idea to claim your spot sooner rather than later if you want to attend. Tickets are available now!
