After nearly half a century in Seattle’s Pioneer Square, longtime toy retailer Magic Mouse Toys has permanently closed its doors.
The store, located at 603 First Avenue, is now covered in paper, with a notice posted on the entrance confirming the closure. The brief message thanks customers for supporting the business for more than 40 years but does not provide a reason for the shutdown.
“Magic Mouse Toys has closed for business permanently,” the store’s notice states simply, adding its appreciation to customers who shopped at the store over the decades.
Magic Mouse Toys first opened in 1977 and became a familiar destination for generations of Seattle families. The store occupied two floors of the historic Mutual Life Building at the intersection of First Avenue and Yesler Way, offering more than 6,000 square feet of space dedicated to toys and games.
Shoppers could browse a wide selection that included traditional toys, board games, puzzles and collectibles, making the store a distinctive part of the Pioneer Square retail landscape and a go-to stop for families.
The closure comes as a surprise, particularly given the store’s long history in the neighborhood. No public explanation for the decision has been announced.
As of Monday morning, the Magic Mouse Toys website remains active and continued to indicate that the store was open, even though its physical storefront had been covered and a permanent-closure notice was posted on the door.
For nearly 50 years, Magic Mouse Toys served as a nostalgic stop for Seattle shoppers and toy enthusiasts. Its sudden disappearance marks the end of a long-running chapter for one of the Seattle’s oldest toy stores.
