If you’re looking for community in Seattle and you own a camera, you need to know about this new club that is free to join. Seattle Film Club hosts regular meetups and events for local photographers. Their goal is to “build community through film photography,” according to their website, but you can join most of their events with any kind of camera.

Seattle Film Club’s monthly events include activities such as photo walks, workshops, pop-ups, critique sessions, film swaps, and “collaborative zine-making.” All skill levels are welcome, and your camera doesn’t have to be a film camera. The club’s website states an intention for their events to “serve as a way to build community, experiment creatively, and stay inspired.”
One of their most popular events is a “guided photo walk and listening experience.” For the May meetup, the group walked from Pioneer Square to Seattle Center, taking photos and listening to a curated playlist along the way. This photo walk is called “Sight & Sound” and is a reoccurring event.
The club’s next event is on June 19 in the Central District! Sight & Sound: Juneteenth Edition is a free group photo walk paired with a specially curated playlist. The club will meet at Midtown Square Plaza at 6:00 p.m. Bring headphones and whatever you use for taking photos.
