You’ll find one of the country’s best new chefs right here in Seattle.
In case you needed another reason to try the much-lauded Seattle restaurant Musang, Food & Wine just named the owner and chef Melissa Miranda one of their Best New Chefs of 2022.

Food & Wine visited 24 cities across the States in search of the best new chefs of 2022. Restaurant editor Khushbu Shah described these top chefs as the “rising generation of culinary talent that’s committed to leading and feeding others with a deep sense of integrity and hospitality—and to cooking up incredibly delicious, deeply personal, culturally grounded food.” In the end, Food & Wine named just 11 chefs on their list—and among them is one of Seattle’s own.
Melissa Miranda is the owner and chef at Musang, a contemporary Filipino restaurant in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. Miranda was able to open Musang in 2019 thanks to a community-backed Kickstarter. Since then, Musang has enjoyed no shortage of accolades. In 2020, Seattle Met named Musang their restaurant of the year. It has also been highly reviewed in Condé Nast Traveler. So Miranda’s recognition will probably come as no surprise to most Seattle foodies.
“The biggest thing about Musang is that it is for us, by us,” Miranda said to Food & Wine. “I look at this opportunity, this restaurant, and it’s so humbling and such an honor. What Musang represents and what it means for us, as a community, is just huge.”
Musang’s menu is full of Filipino dishes with a Pacific Northwest twist. Miranda focuses on local and seasonal ingredients. The crispy fried chicken with gravy, garlic rice, short ribs, and halo-halo ice cream are some of the current menu standouts.
New to their brunch menu is longganisa benedict: chicken longganisa on macrina challah toast with hollandaise, roasted roma tomatoes, red onions, fried egg, and chives. (They can also make a vegan version for you.)
Whether you love Filipino food or have never tried it, this is the place to go.
