Seattle’s Pike Place Market will stay lively well into the evening on Thursday, June 18, as it hosts the Welcoming the World Night Market from 5 to 10 p.m. The free night market will bring together food vendors, artists, farmers, musicians, and local businesses for a night focused on community and cultural exchange as the World Cup brings global visitors to the Emerald City.
Market visitors can expect more than 60 local artisans selling handmade goods, along with 20 food vendors and 13 farmers offering fresh produce and specialty products. The event will also feature two live art demonstrations and music curated by Lace Cadence of KEXP, adding to the festival atmosphere throughout the Market.
In addition to shopping and food, guests can expect casual activities spread throughout the Market, such as backyard-style party games designed to encourage people to linger and connect.
Unlike a typical evening at Pike Place when things start to shut down around 4 to 5 pm, many businesses will extend their operating hours for the occasion, giving people extra time to wander through shops, grab dinner, or explore parts of the Market they may not usually visit after dark.
Organizers say the night market is intended as a way for both locals and visiting soccer fans to “celebrate the culture and diversity that make this city so special.” The event coincides with Pike Place Market’s new Sip & Savor pilot program that they’re introducing this summer, which allows visitors to explore the market with a to-go alcoholic beverage in hand now through Labor Day.
