Starting today, Pike Place Market is giving visitors a new way to explore this summer: with a cocktail, beer, or bubbly drink in hand.
As of Friday, June 5, Pike Place Market is trying out the new Sip & Savor summer pilot. The program lets guests purchase alcoholic beverages from participating vendors and enjoy them while wandering through the historic nine-acre market. The goal is to support small businesses while giving visitors another reason to stick around, snack, shop, and soak up the summer atmosphere.
The program runs Fridays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. and continues through Labor Day weekend. To join in, guests will need to show ID and wear a wristband. Drinks will be served in special approved cups, and signs throughout the Market will mark where sipping is allowed. Staff members will also be on hand throughout the day to help keep things safe and running smoothly.
Sip & Savor is launching just as Pike Place Market rolls out expanded outdoor seating for the season. Around 50 extra picnic tables are being added along Pike Place and the MarketFront, making it even easier to grab lunch, enjoy a drink, and people-watch in the sunshine.
The pilot was made possible by House Bill 1515, which allows licensed businesses to extend alcohol service into approved public spaces with local approval. Businesses participating in the program already hold licenses for indoor dining or alcohol production.
The timing also matches the return of full vehicle closures on Pike Place, helping ensure a more walkable, pedestrian-friendly experience.
A total of 23 Market businesses are participating this summer, offering plenty of options to enjoy while you stroll. Visitors can pick up everything from a cocktail at Rachel’s Ginger Beer to a Prosecco float from Shug’s Soda Fountain before finding a seat at one of the Market’s picnic tables with bright red umbrellas.
