Looking for a fun night out in Seattle at a theater production that doesn’t take itself too seriously? Jurassic Parking Lot has its opening night on Thursday, August 27 at the historic Bathhouse Theater at Seattle Public Theater on Green Lake—and if you go, audiences are reminded to “hold onto your butts.”
The musical parody, created by The Habit Comedy, takes the familiar world of dinosaurs, ambitious scientists, and questionable decisions and turns it into a live musical comedy show. The production mixes music, comedy, and deliberately low-budget theatrical effects, with plenty of dinosaur-themed silliness along the way.
The story pokes fun at the idea of scientists bringing dinosaurs back to life—and what might happen when things inevitably go off the rails. Audiences can expect “big laughs, ridiculously low-budget staging, strangely sexy dinosaurs, live music, and inappropriate dance numbers.”
The production comes from the creators of “A Very Die Hard Christmas” and “Titanish.” Jeff Schell and David Swidler wrote the show, with Mark Siano directing.
“The Habit always brings the house down, and we are thrilled to have them back again this season,” said Seattle Public Theater Producing Artistic Director Amy Poisson.
Jurassic Parking Lot is geared toward adults and older teens, with the theater recommending it for ages 14 and up. The performance runs approximately 100 minutes, including one intermission.
For Seattle audiences looking for something a little different from a traditional theater production, the show offers a fresh take on one of pop culture’s most famous dinosaur stories with plenty of ’90s nostalgia.
