Looking to trade Seattle for a few days in nature? This scenic glamping destination in Washington deserves a spot on your summer 2026 travel list. Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge is about a four-hour drive from Seattle, set in the White Salmon River Valley at the border of Washington and Oregon. The area is known for its vineyards, dramatic canyons, and fast-moving rivers. The seasonally operated, 95-tent luxury camp debuted last summer and will reopen for the 2026 season in April.

Under Canvas has 11 other campsites but this is their first to open in Washington State. The goal is camping in comfort, achieved with a focus on upscale outdoor lodging. Guests stay in spacious, safari-style canvas tents outfitted with king-size beds, wood floors, and private bathrooms. The main lobby tent offers Wi-Fi and is styled with local artwork and West Elm furnishings. Guests also have access to café-style dining, a small retail shop, and inviting outdoor lounge spaces. The camp is surrounded by forested hills and the Cascade Mountains, with sweeping views in every direction—including Mount Hood.
The property is pet-friendly and welcomes dogs for a small nightly fee. On-site dining highlights seasonal menus made with locally sourced ingredients. Programming includes live music, morning yoga, kids’ activities, and nightly campfires with complimentary s’mores. An “adventure concierge” is available to help plan nearby nature outings like white-water rafting and hiking.
Under Canvas is located about 45 minutes from Mount Hood and just over an hour from Portland. The surrounding area offers waterfall hikes, wineries, and trailheads that tend to be far less crowded than those near Seattle. The White Salmon River provides easy access nearby for fly fishing, rafting, and kayaking, and the small town of White Salmon—about 15 miles away—offers additional attractions, including local breweries.
In 2026, Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge is operating from April 23 to October 26. You can get more info via the Under Canvas website.
