Did you know Seattle has a public floating sauna on Lake Washington?
Von Sauna opened in March 2024. It is located at Carillon Point in Kirkland, WA—just about a 15-minute drive from downtown Seattle. The combination of the hot sauna and a cold plunge in Lake Washington will “leave you feeling rejuvenated, refreshed and energized,” according to the sauna website.
You have two options when booking. You can reserve a seat and go with the understanding that you may end up sharing the sauna with some new friends, or you can book the entire sauna for a private experience for yourself and your group. The majority of people go for the first style of booking, which costs $40 for a 75-minute session. This includes enough time to cycle between the sauna and the cold water (if you choose) about three times.
Once you’re there, here’s what you will find:
- A changing room
- Lockers
- Public restrooms
- Drinking water
- A hot room with wood-fired heat and seating for up to 12 people
- Essential oils
- A spacious deck and safe access to Lake Washington for cooling down
If you’re not comfortable with swimming, the sauna also has a “bucket on a rope” option for the cool-down part.
You’ll need to bring two towels, a refillable water bottle, and your swimsuit (ideally already on). Note that parking is $5-$7 so consider carpooling or public transportation.
Kids age 12 and up are welcome at the sauna if accompanied by an adult.
According to their website, Von Sauna’s mission is to “provide an accessible way for people to reconnect with nature and with each other through the magic of authentic sauna and natural cold plunge.” So don’t be afraid to break the Seattle Freeze and strike up a friendly conversation while you’re there!
If you’re looking for a unique gift for a local Seattleite, Von Sauna offers gift cards! You can find those along with more information and booking options on the sauna’s website.
