Hoping to celebrate Dia de los Muertos in Seattle this year?
We’ve gathered up the best events honoring the Day of the Day in Seattle this October and November. This traditional Mexican holiday honors loved ones who have passed away with colorful painted skulls, decorated altars, and food. All but one of these local events are free, and they’re all kid-friendly!
Here are six 2023 Dia De Los Muertos celebrations in Seattle:
1. Dia De Los Muertos Celebration at Seattle Art Museum
When: October 27, 6-9 PM
Where: Seattle Art Museum
Cost: Free!
This evening celebration at Seattle Art Museum “blends art, music, dance, and creativity, for all ages.” You get to enjoy all of the festivities as well as the third floor galleries for free! Get more info on the SAM website.
2. Aqui Mercado’s Dia De Los Muertos market
When: October 29, 1-7 PM
Where: The 101 in Pioneer Square
Cost: Free! ($5 donation welcome)
This market honoring the Day of the Dead will have a DJ, over 30 local vendors, and delicious food. You can attend for free or make a $5 donation.
3. Día de Muertos Festival at Seattle Center
When: October 28-29
Where: Seattle Center
Cost: Free
This free, family-friendly festival will take place at Seattle Center’s Armory Food & Event Hall and Fisher Pavilion from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both days. There will be “performances, elaborate altars, colorful face-painting, sugar skull workshops, visual art, and more!” See more on the event page.
4. Dia de los Muertos Celebration at Phinney Center
When: November 4, 1-4 PM
Where: Phinney Center Blue Building
Cost: Free
This free community celebration is fun for all ages. There will be music, food, crafts, and more. See the day’s event schedule on the Phinney Center website.
5. SEA Giant Skulls in downtown Seattle parks
When: through October
Where: downtown Seattle parks
Cost: Free
There are currently 10 giant painted skulls displayed in Seattle’s downtown parks to celebrate the Day of the Dead. Read more about the skulls and their locations. You have until the end of October to see these skulls for free until they are moved for the Seattle Catrinas Festival (see below).
6. Seattle Catrinas Festival at The Town Hall
When: November 2-5
Where: Town Hall (1119 8th Ave)
Cost: $30+ (kids 3 and under are free)
At the beginning of November, the SEA Giant Skulls will all be moved from downtown Seattle Parks to Town Hall for the Seattle Catrinas Festival. There will be a street market, live music, photo booths, workshops for kids, and “the famous live Catrinas Procession.” Get tickets now.
