A forthcoming tapas bar in Greenwood is causing a lot of buzz before it has even opened its doors. Bar Sur Mer is the latest venture from beloved Seattle chef Eric Donnelly. He has garnered acclaim for his popular Seattle restaurants RockCreek and FlintCreek Cattle Co. Now, Bar Sur Mer has opened right next door to FlintCreek in Greenwood—and we can’t wait to snag a table.

Despite its French name, Donnelly told Seattle Met that the seafood-focused bar is “Spanish in spirit.” It will have a compact menu of about a dozen small tapas-style plates such as clams and marinated squid. Of course, there will be plenty of Spanish wine and bubbly available at the bar as well.
Compared to Donnelly’s other two restaurants, Bar Sur Mer will have a more cozy, intimate feel due to its mere 35 seats. It is designed to be a brief layover for diners on the way to or from their dinner at next-door FlintCreek. You don’t have to spend your entire evening there, but instead pop in for a few small bites and a drink or two to whet your appetite or close out the night.
Bar Sur Mer will be a space for ages 21 and up, so you’ll want to leave the kiddos at home and enjoy a grown-up date night when you go. It will be open seven days a week and—true to its Spanish influence—will be open late each night. It’s not always easy to find late-night spots in Seattle outside of the lively Capitol Hill neighborhood, so night owls in Greenwood should rejoice.
Bar Sur Mer is now open daily from 5:00 p.m. to midnight at 219 N 85th St.
