A Dazzling New Lantern Festival Is Heading To Woodland Park Zoo • WildLanterns

By Gabriel Nunes November 12, 2020

WildLanterns is an immersive experience that will illuminate Seattle this winter.

2020 has been a gloomier year than usual, but starting tomorrow, there will be a new way to round out the year in a bright, illuminated way! WildLanterns, presented by Sound Credit Union, is a completely new lantern festival coming to the Seattle area on November 13, 2020 and sticking around until January 17, 2021, giving visitors ample time to brighten up the end of the year!

Held at the Woodland Park Zoo, the theme of the festival is nothing other than animals and nature, duh! There will be plenty of large-scale animal and nature scape lanterns representing natural environments from around the globe for you to see and explore. During a visit, guests will spot sightings of animal lanterns such as grizzly bears, snow leopards, gorillas, seat turtles, seals, giraffes, zebras, and other elusive creatures as they venture through the various exhibits, including the Living Northwest, the Jungle Lights, SeaMazium, and African Savanna.

This immersive lantern exhibition is completely family-friendly and will abide by all local COVID-19 guidelines and protocol, including requiring everyone aged 5 and over to wear face coverings during their visit. Tickets are already on sale, and you will have to reserve a specific entry time in advance (between 4 pm and 8:30 pm each day). Ticket pricing is $28.95 for adults (ages 13+), $23.95 for children (ages 3–12), and free for toddlers (ages 2 and under). Please note the festival will be closed on Mondays, as well as for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

You can also enter the WildLanterns Photo Contest presented by T-Mobile for a chance to win a wild meet & greet with one of the Woodland Park Zoo’s ambassador animals for you and up to four friends. To enter, you just need to tag @WoodlandParkZoo or use the #WoodlandParkZoo hashtag along with #WildLanterns on a photo you post of the festival on Instagram. You’ll have until the festival ends for the season to participate.

WildLanterns promises to be a unique, illuminated experience that will give you a chance to experience the Woodland Park Zoo like never before as you embark on an illuminated expedition through several natural habits filled with dazzling lanterns.
