Time is running out to experience a piece of Pacific Northwest nostalgia. Wild Waves Theme and Water Park will open its gates for the very last time on May 23, 2026, kicking off a final season that marks the end of nearly five decades of summer tradition in the Seattle area.
Back in December 2025, the Federal Way park—long known as the region’s only full-scale theme and water park—announced it will close permanently after this season. For many in South King County and beyond, that makes this summer not just another visit, but a last chance to ride, splash, and revisit memories before the park disappears for good.
Originally opened in 1977 as The Enchanted Village, the 70-acre attraction has been a fixture of local summers for generations. Operated by Premier Parks, LLC, it has employed about 35 full-time staff and roughly 800 seasonal workers—making it both a cultural landmark and a significant summer employer. After nearly 50 years, its closure will leave a noticeable gap in the region’s entertainment landscape.
So why the urgency? According to park leadership, the shutdown comes after mounting financial pressure. Rising operating costs following the COVID-19 pandemic led to “millions” in losses, ultimately forcing the decision to end operations after 2026.
Despite the closure, everything is set for one final run. The park will operate throughout the 2026 season, with a definitive last day on November 1, 2026, closing out with its annual Halloween Fright Fest. All season passes, group bookings, and pre-purchased tickets will be honored—so anyone holding onto plans should make sure to use them before time runs out.
As for what comes next, the future of the site remains uncertain but active. Property owner Jeff Stock has indicated that a “meaningful” redevelopment project is in very early planning stages, though no concrete details have been released.
For now, though, the focus is squarely on what’s left: one final summer. Opening day is approaching fast, and for longtime fans or curious first-timers, this is the last opportunity to experience Wild Waves before it becomes part of Washington history.
