Unexpected Productions was founded in 1988. They have been performing improv in their Pike Place Market theater since 1991. It’s one of our favorite hidden-gem activities in Pike Place Market—especially when we have visitors in tow.
The Seattle International Festival of Improv is being hosted at the Pike Place Market theater and at the Improv School in Georgetown from June 27 through July 2. According to the theater’s website, the festival “will feature innovative international and local improv teachers and guests for a week’s worth of workshops, shows, parties, and fun.” This is their 40th anniversary celebration!
There will be 10 nights of live improv performances consisting of multiple sets. There will also be daily workshops with experienced teachers imparting improv skills such as puppet improv, the art of free falling, and hip-hop freestyling.
For tickets, a detailed schedule, and more info, visit the theater’s website.
If you can’t make it to the festival, you can check out the theater’s current and upcoming improv shows. Unexpected Productions will also be celebrating their 40th anniversary with a week of performances “featuring current and former ensemble members and some surprise guests” between June 18 and June 25.
