If you’re looking for a unique (and budget-friendly!) way to spend a summer evening in Seattle, look no further. After drawing more than 15,000 people last year, the Seattle Glow is coming back on June 21 to light up Seattle Center with a stunning hot air balloon display beneath the iconic Space Needle.
Hosted by Seattle Ballooning in partnership with Seattle Center, the event has quickly become one of the city’s most memorable summer traditions. This year’s glow is presented with support from Muckleshoot Casino. Seattle Ballooning offers sunrise and sunset balloon rides with views of Mt. Rainier, and now they’re bringing that same sense of wonder right into the heart of the city.
So what exactly is the Seattle Glow? Think of it as a hot air balloon show unlike most others. Instead of taking off, the balloons stay tethered to the ground, fully inflated and towering overhead. As pilots fire up the burners, the balloons glow from within, transforming into massive, colorful lanterns that light up the night. It’s a unique experience, perfect for seeing the massive hot air balloons up close, getting photos, and just soaking in the festival atmosphere while DJ music plays in the background.
Last year marked the first time hot air balloons were ever fired up at Seattle Center, making it a pretty historic moment. The turnout proved just how much people loved it: it was one of the most well-attended free events at the Seattle Center that summer.
This year, everything happens at Fisher Pavilion on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Music kicks off at 8:00 PM, and the balloons light up around 9:00 PM for about an hour. If you want a good spot, plan to arrive early—around 7:30 PM is a safe bet. Prepare for crowds, and consider using public transit or ride sharing to get in and out.
And yes, it’s completely free—no tickets or reservations needed.
Just keep in mind: it’s all weather permitting, since balloons need calm, dry conditions to fly (or glow). You can follow Seattle Ballooning for updates.
