This summer, a trip to Pike Place Market could come with a cocktail in hand.
The Pike Place Market Historical Commission officially approved a new “Sip and Stroll” pilot program this week, giving visitors the chance to enjoy beer, wine, and cocktails while wandering through designated parts of the market. If approved by the other necessary agencies, the pilot program will likely start sometime after Memorial Day weekend and run through Labor Day weekend, timed for the market’s busy summer season as well as World Cup visitors.
The Sip & Stroll hours will be limited to Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 4:30 p.m. Market visitors can grab a drink from participating vendors and then go explore without staying tied to a single patio or bar. During the World Night Market on June 18, the hours will extend to 8 p.m.
A total of 24 merchants are planning to participate. Here’s the full list of the participating businesses:
- Can Can Culinary Cabaret
- Copacabana
- Delaurenti’s
- El Borracho
- Emmett Watson’s Oyster Bar
- Honest Biscuits
- Los Agaves

There will still be a few rules. Drinks will be served in special program cups, and anyone buying alcohol will need to show ID and wear a wristband. Alcoholic beverages can only be enjoyed within clearly marked areas that include public seating spaces and walkways. Visitors won’t be able to carry drinks into shops other than the business where the beverage was purchased.
The designated areas include public seating areas and the walkways that connect them. The seating areas include the Soames Dunn Courtyard and the waterfront overlook area behind the market. You can see a map illustrating the outdoor consumption areas and the participating vendors (marked with gold stars) below:

The program still needs to be approved by the Pike Place Market PDA Council and the Seattle Department of Transportation. The next PDA Council meeting is on May 28, after which we may have a better idea of the Sip & Stroll start date. Stay tuned!
