Are you new to The Emerald City and trying to make friends in Seattle? Is the Seattle Freeze getting you down? There’s an ongoing event made just for you and other newcomers in the city: Seattle Welcome Day. This all-day event connects you with other Seattleites and helps you come up with a plan for building the life you want here.
Read on for all the details!
The Seattle Chamber of Connection describes Seattle Welcome Day as “the city’s official welcome day—designed for all types of newcomers from students to refugees to executives to new Mariners players to long-time residents looking for a fresh start.” You don’t even have to be new to Seattle; you’re also welcome to attend if you’re a “resident ready for a fresh start,” as the event organizers put it.
It costs $20 to attend and lunch is included. If you’re age 22 or younger, you can attend for free! Note that this event is for ages 16 and up. It’s hosted by Town Hall Seattle, a “vibrant gathering place” located downtown near the Seattle Central Library.
Here’s what you’ll receive at Seattle Welcome Day:
- The Seattle Newcomers Club Journal with prompts inside.
- The chance to meet both newcomers and longtime locals.
- Help building your action plan for your life in Seattle from professional facilitators.
- Advice about local events and communities you may like.
- The chance to join an ongoing newcomer club.
- Lunch!
After you’ve attended, you can continue reaching out to the community and volunteers for support and connection. Monthly meetups are organized by volunteers so you can keep in touch with the other attendees and continue meeting new people.
The next Seattle Welcome Day takes place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 and tickets are on sale now. Each event is limited to 100 participants. If you can’t make it to this one, the event reoccurs almost every month!
You can see more info and get tickets on the Town Hall Seattle website.
