Seattle Public Library just gave its library cards a seriously fun makeover.
Seattleites can now choose from a total of six library card designs. The two new library card designs were created by local artists. Whether you’re into retro ’90s nostalgia, playful illustrations, or something Seattle-specific, there’s a card style to match.
The Journey Card, designed by local artist Diego Fidelis, asks, “Where will you go with a Library card?” This bright, colorful library card is available as a wallet card, keychain card or a combination of both. (Peep the Space Needle in the background!)

Then there’s the adorable Book Club Card, designed by local artist Ning Wan, inspired by the message: “We have a book for everyone: orca, crustacean, and especially you.” Like the Journey Card, it comes in wallet, keychain or combo formats.

There’s a few more options available in addition to the two new cards shown above, if those aren’t your style.
The Icon Cards offer three different designs built around the message: “Be yourself. Choose your style.” These are also available as wallet cards, keychain cards or both.

And for anyone feeling nostalgic, there’s the Classic Card: a throwback design originally created in the ’90s. It’s available in wallet size only.

Ready to pick yours? To get a physical library card with one of these designs, stop by any open Seattle Public Library branch with valid ID. Find your closest SPL branch here. If you already have an SPL Library card but want to trade it in for a new design, library staff can help you. Note that you will receive a new Library card number with your new card.
If a physical card isn’t important to you, you can apply for a Library card online and get instant access to e-books and other digital resources.
