Head to Olympic Sculpture Park for free yoga this Saturday.
From February through April, SAM Body and Mind offers free yoga followed by a sound bowl performance and an art activity on the fourth Saturday of each month at Olympic Sculpture Park. This Saturday, April 29 is your last chance to partake in this free event. This free program was designed by Seattle Art Museum (SAM) to help you “restore and reconnect with yourself through movement and art.”
Read on for all the details!
You don’t need to register for this free event—simply show up this Saturday for any or all of the activities. Be sure to arrive early, as this event fills up quickly and is first-come, first-served.
Note that this Saturday’s schedule is in the afternoon, unlike the previous events which started in the morning.
Here is the day’s full schedule:
1. Yoga from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
The event starts with a free 60-minute Vinyasa flow by Take Care Yoga. It will be “focused on building strength, balance, flexibility, and heart.” All levels of experience are welcome!
Note: yoga mats will not be provided, so be sure to bring your own mat as well as water and anything else you need to exercise comfortably!
2. Sound bowl performance from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
After you’ve reconnected with your body through yoga, it’s time for a free sound bath. There will be a one-hour sound bowl performance by Biom. Here is the description provided so you know what to look forward to:
Biom uses sound, plant, and light therapy to help clear the mind, release stressful energy, and reach a deep meditative state. All of the instruments are acoustic, using the resonance of crystal bowls and metal gongs to wash your body with waves of healing frequencies. The vibrations help to loosen up stagnant energy throughout the body which can relieve tension.
3. Art activity from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Finally, the program concludes with a free art activity inspired by artwork in the Olympic Sculpture Park and focused on self-reflection. The Feels Foundation will be leading this art project and will provide whatever you need for it.
Ready to stretch your body and mind? No advance registration is required—just show up! Make sure to arrive a little early if you can, since space is limited and all the activities are on a first-come, first-served basis.
