Seattle’s oldest neighborhood has been without a rooftop bar—until now. The first rooftop bar in Pioneer Square just opened this week! Perched on top of the brand-new Populus Hotel, Firn is offering up a unique view of the Seattle skyline.
Read on for all the details!
The newly-opened Populus Seattle is a carbon-positive boutique hotel located in the historic Westland Building that was built in 1907. The hotel combines the rich history of the building and Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood with modern sustainable initiatives. One of those initiatives is that for every night you stay, the hotel plants a tree.
Popolus Seattle is within walking distance of Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, the Seattle waterfront, and Pike Place Market. The 120-room hotel is decorated with live greenery and over 300 pieces of original art. It is open for reservations now.
The hotel has an in-house restaurant in addition to the rooftop bar. Salt Harvest focuses on “hearth-inspired cooking” using local, fresh ingredients. It’s open daily for breakfast and lunch and on the weekends for dinner and the bar.
As for Firn, the hotel describes it as “a lively rooftop experience celebrating local flavors.” Prior to this opening, Smith Tower was the pretty much only place in Pioneer Square to go for a drink with a view. Now you can finally take in the Seattle skyline and waterfront while sipping cocktails on a rooftop bar in Seattle’s oldest neighborhood.
Speaking of cocktails… Firn’s cocktail menu gets creative with ice, drawing inspiration from glaciers and “the concept of water and its transition through the phases of the water cycle.” This results in menu items such as shaved ice cocktails and frozen slushy-like cocktails such as the brandy-based Seattle Coffee—perfect for summer. There’s also creative takes on classic cocktails, such as a Sea-tini embellished with “house brine” and a truffle and blue cheese-stuffed olive.
If you work up an appetite while enjoying the scenic open-air seating on the roof, you can also order light bites such as charcuterie and a Dungeness crab dip.
Popolus Seattle and its rooftop bar Firn are open now. You can make a reservation for Firn here.
