Did you hear the news? Pacific Science Center is closing—but only temporarily! When they reopen in October, PacSci will unveil some exciting changes including a brand-new spider exhibit. Unfortunately, one of the biggest updates is a sad one: the Pacific Science Center is retiring their dinosaur exhibit for good. Luckily, you’ll have the chance to bid the dinosaurs farewell this month at an epic farewell party.
Read on for all the details!
The PacSci dinosaurs have been a staple of the museum for almost 40 years, so naturally many locals have fond memories of them. They’re being retired because they have already been repaired and maintained for longer than their intended lifespan. Just one of the dinosaurs will remain on-site in its new role in a Pacific Science Center history exhibit.
Want to see the dinosaurs one last time (or possibly even your first and last time)? You have until PacSci closes on September 2 for the scheduled maintenance period. When it reopens on October 11, they’ll be gone. You can also find a costume and attend the Farewell Dinos party at Pacific Science Center on the evening of Thursday, August 21 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Here are a few of the festivities to expect at the Farewell Dinos party at PacSci on August 21:
- Dinosaur-themed selfie stations.
- Raffles that you can enter to win one of the dinosaur dioramas.
- Dinosaur-inspired drinks (not included in the ticket price) and “prehistoric treats.”
- Dancing to disco and soul music supplied by live DJs.
- Dino Room light displays.
- Costumes: “come dressed as your favorite prehistoric creature.”
- Access to PacSci’s iconic courtyard during the party.
- Half-off evening shows at the Laser Dome.
This party is for ages 21+ only and tickets are required. Early bird pricing starts at $25 but it will go up from there. Members will save $5 on tickets. Make sure to get your tickets soon, since this event could sell out!
