Start prepping, Seattleites. We’ve got a heat wave coming through at the beginning of this week. The National Weather Service just issued an official heat advisory that will last from today, July 7 until Tuesday, July 9, 2024. New high temperature records have already been set in many PNW areas today.
High temperatures and humidity
We’ll experience high temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s. The lows for the next few days will only be in the 60s. Additionally, relative humidity levels will be around 15-25%. The NWS states, “Please prepare for multiple days of hot temperatures, and do your part in preventing the start of wildfires.”
Heat risk warning
The NWS has warned of moderate to major heat risk during these days. Be sure to stay hydrated and try to limit your time outside in the sun. Keep a close eye on your furry friends during the heat wave as well. For your safety, here are the signs of multiple heat-related illnesses and how to prevent them.
How you can stay safe, according to the NWS:
According to the NWS, “Heat danger is the number one weather related killer. Taking steps to reduce heat exhaustion and heat stroke is extremely important with above average temperatures forecasted the next several days.”
- Avoid overexertion and stay hydrated. Heat stroke can occur even during moderate heat.
- Never leave people or pets in a car. Hot car deaths occur year-round.
- Assist those who are at higher risk of heat related illness, including children, pregnant people, and older adults.
Stay alert
Wednesday should see some relief from stronger onshore wind flow. However, temperatures will still remain higher than normal. Keep an eye here for updates as the National Weather Service continues to issue them. Stay safe and cool out there, Seattle!
