A new movie set in Leavenworth has us excited for our next weekend trip from Seattle.
If you’re in the mood to watch a romantic comedy this week in honor of Valentine’s Day, allow us to suggest Somebody I Used to Know. Anyone in Seattle will immediately recognize it as a movie set in Leavenworth, WA. A popular destination for Oktoberfest and Christmas, Leavenworth is only about a two-hour drive from Seattle. Our personal favorite event is the Autumn Leaf Festival in Leavenworth.
But now you don’t even have to make the drive to enjoy a taste of that cozy Bavarian charm that Leavenworth is famous for. Somebody I Used to Know is a rom-com that is smart enough to take advantage of what is possibly the most charming town in Washington state, if not the entire country.
The film stars Alison Brie as Ally, a TV producer who returns to her small hometown and reconnects with an ex-boyfriend played by Jay Ellis. The film also stars Danny Pudi, Haley Joel Osment, Amy Sedaris, and (last but not least) an endearing Kiersey Clemons in the role of the woman currently engaged to Ally’s ex. If you like the classic rom-com My Best Friend’s Wedding, you’ll enjoy this fresh rendition.
Brie co-wrote the film with her husband Dave Franco, who also directed it. As Franco told Oregon Live, he was inspired to make a movie in Leavenworth after going to a friend’s wedding there. He also professed his love for Oregon (where the majority of the film was shot) and the Pacific Northwest, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see more films from Brie and Franco starring the PNW in the future.
