South African artist Ralph Ziman’s The MiG-21 Project has been 5 years in the making. With this spectacular installation, Ziman aimed to ‘take the most mass produced supersonic fighter aircraft and to turn it from a machine of war into something that looks beautiful’. Alongside the jet, the exhibition features original artworks, striking Afrofuturistic flight suits crafted by Ziman and his team, large-scale photography, immersive videos, and interactive displays to dive deeper into the story behind the piece.

As the concluding artwork in Ziman’s 12-year Weapons of Mass Production Trilogy, the reclaimed jet aims to turn a machine of war into a symbol of peace. This trilogy delves into the ramifications of arms trading on global conflicts, and you’ll be taken on a journey of its evolution throughout the exhibition. What’s more, you’ll get the chance to learn more about the Cold War, and how other military aircraft have been reinvented in a similar way.
