Having to say goodbye to a beloved restaurant is part of living in a city, but losing a rooftop bar in Seattle is a special kind of pain. The Emerald City has a limited roster of rooftop bars, and now that number has gotten smaller. Popular South Lake Union rooftop bar and restaurant mbar is closing this November after nine years.
Read on for all the details.
mbar is closing just shy of its 10-year anniversary. It opened in 2016. Since then it has been a favorite spot for sunny afternoon happy hour and celebratory nights out. It’s known for its panoramic city views, craft cocktails, and contemporary Middle Eastern–meets-Mediterranean menu.
In the announcement about the closure shared via email and Instagram, the Mama restaurant group didn’t share a reason for the closure. The announcement follows last month’s closure of Mamnoon, their popular Middle Eastern restaurant that opened in Capitol Hill 13 years ago. mbar’s closure statement said, in part:
Since opening in 2016, mbar has been a place for sunsets, weddings, proposals, celebrations, and our annual Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve parties — countless memories shared with our guests… We’ve had a great run — and we’re not done yet! Join us for two weeks of fun and celebration as we toast to nearly a decade of mbar.”
mbar’s last day of service will be Saturday, November 1. In the meantime, the mbar team invites Seattleites to see their Instagram for updates including “last-call food, drink, and music specials” over the next two weeks. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, with the hours and address listed below.
We will update this post with any additional information.
