Seattle baseball fans have just one more week to catch a little Mariners history at the Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP). “Mariners 50: Community & Baseball” closes Tuesday, August 18, leaving fans a limited amount of time to squeeze in a visit.
Running since March, the MOPOP artifact spotlight celebrates the Seattle Mariners’ 50th season through 15 historic artifacts that capture the team’s history. The exhibition is also in honor of all the fans who have stuck with the Mariners through every high, low, and ninth-inning nail-biter. MOPOP lists the exhibition as running March 14 through August 18.
The display reaches back to the Mariners’ inaugural 1977 season and jumps through some of the franchise’s most memorable eras. Among the artifacts are NIKE’s Griffey in ’96 button, Ken Griffey Jr.’s game-worn 1994 home jersey and the home run trident introduced in 2023.
Together, the objects tell a story that goes beyond statistics and championship banners. There’s the optimism of a first pitch, the electricity of the 1995 “Refuse to Lose” season and the enduring Seattle tradition of believing that, somehow, this could be the year.
The timing feels especially fitting. The Mariners recently marked the milestone with their 50 Seasons Celebration at T-Mobile Park, where the organization unveiled its Top 50 Greatest Mariners Players (selected by fans, media, and staff) on August 8.
And the celebration isn’t over at the ballpark. Upcoming Mariners events include decade weekends honoring the 2010s on August 23 and the 2020s on September 26.
But for a concentrated dose of Mariners nostalgia, MOPOP’s exhibition can’t be missed. “Mariners 50: Community & Baseball” is included with general admission. MOPOP is at 325 5th Ave. N. and is open daily, with current posted hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. Find more details and plan your visit on the museum website.
