Seattle’s bagel scene is showing no signs of slowing down.
The latest addition is coming to Magnolia, where the team behind Backyard Bagel is opening a new concept called Little Boat Bagels at 3213 W McGraw St. The shop is expected to open this fall.
Little Boat will focus on sourdough bagels, with all the familiar staples alongside something a little more playful: open-face sandwiches “with a fun twist.” As far as what that twist is, we’ll have to wait and find out. The Backyard team says they’ll be sharing updates as the space comes together, along with more details about the new brand, menu and story.
And for fans of Backyard Bagel, there’s no need to worry about a disappearing favorite. The team says Backyard Bagel is doing well and isn’t going anywhere.
Backyard Bagel got its start at the Ballard Farmers Market, where the team still pops up every Sunday with bulk bagels and cream cheese. The brand’s first brick-and-mortar storefront is in Fremont, serving New York-style bagels, sandwiches and coffee, with “hot bagels all day every day” from a traditional deck oven. It has since expanded with a flagship location near University Village.
If you don’t live in or near Magnolia, don’t worry: Little Boat isn’t the only new bagel game coming to town.
West Seattle is also getting two new bagel spots soon. Hey Bagel plans to bring its popular sourdough bagels to Alaska Junction next May, while Royal Bagel is planning a Morgan Junction location later this year. Royal Bagel will initially focus on New York-style bagels and schmear to-go, with plans to expand the menu down the road.
For Seattle, that means even more options when the inevitable bagel craving hits—and some new material for the never-ending argument about which place makes the perfect bagel in Seattle.
