Seattle City Hall will have some unusual visitors Wednesday, August 12, when the Seattle Animal Shelter brings adoptable cats and kittens downtown for its annual Kitty Hall event.
The free event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Bertha Knight Landes Room at 600 Fourth Ave. It gives Seattle residents a chance to meet animals currently looking for homes and potentially leave City Hall with a new feline family member.
The event will feature several stations where visitors can interact with adoptable cats and kittens. Attendees can also learn about pet licensing and other services offered by the Seattle Animal Shelter, while a Kitty Cam Photo Booth will provide an opportunity for cat-themed snapshots.
One of the afternoon’s more playful activities will be the election of a “Kitty Council Purr-sident.” Visitors can vote for adult cats competing for the tongue-in-cheek title.
The animals brought to Kitty Hall will be available for adoption, and successful adopters can take their new pets home that day after completing the required paperwork at the event.
Seattle Animal Shelter Executive Director Ashley Harrington said the event is particularly meaningful for kittens that have yet to experience life in a permanent home.
“These kittens have so much joy ahead together” with their future families, Harrington said, describing Kitty Hall as an opportunity to help create those connections.
For Seattleites who can’t make Wednesday’s event, the shelter also offers adoption, fostering and volunteer opportunities through its website. People interested in supporting the shelter can also make donations to help fund its programs and community events.
With City Hall temporarily becoming Kitty Hall, the shelter hopes Seattleites will stop by and find a new four-legged addition to their household.
