You know what makes Mondays better? Ice cream. No, scratch that—how about free ice cream? On Monday, April 3rd you can participate in Free Cone Day at participating Ben and Jerry’s Scoop Shop locations in the Seattle area. This annual promotion takes place every spring worldwide as a way of saying thank you to customers.

Free Cone Day started more than 40 years ago in 1979. Ice cream shop cofounders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield wanted to celebrate their first year of business in Vermont and say thanks to the community. They came up with the idea of giving out unlimited free scoops of ice cream for one day. The annual tradition has continued ever since.
It’s a day of gratitude and giving back. “Some participating Scoop Shops will also partner with a local nonprofit in their communities, who often benefit from much of the energy around Free Cone Day,” Ben and Jerry’s shared in a statement.
This promotion is unusual becausse of its lack of restrictions. Not only do customers get to choose between a cone and a cup, but you can also get as many free scoops as you want. If you want to try out different flavors, you simply have to get in line again for another free scoop.
Every flavor on the Scoop Shop menu will be available in either a cone or a cup on April 3. You may want to try out Ben and Jerry’s newest flavor: Lights! Caramel! Action! This non-dairy vanilla ice cream flavor honors award-winning director Ava DuVernay and has gobs of caramel, graham crackers, and cookie dough.
