If you’re looking for a summer activity around Seattle that’s a little outside the ordinary, pickleball on a floating court might be worth adding to your list. Yes: a floating pickleball court sits on Lake Washington, giving players a chance to take the sport onto the water.
The setup is part of the summer offerings at Hyatt Regency Lake Washington at Seattle’s Southport in Renton, which introduced the floating court in 2025. The hotel already leans into its waterfront location with kayak, paddle board, and jet ski rentals, but this may be its most attention-grabbing attraction yet.
Playing on the court isn’t quite the same as your average match at the neighborhood park. Because the inflatable court gently shifts with the water, every movement feels a little less stable—kind of like running across a giant waterbed. That wobble adds an extra challenge and turns even casual games into a surprisingly athletic experience. As one reviewer wrote on the hotel website:
Super easy to book and check-in. And the hotel offers parking validation at the dockside bar. Play was really fun, but quite the core workout just to stay upright. All in all it was a fun way to get on the water and enjoy the weather during these final days of Seattle summer.
And if a pickleball flies overboard? No big deal. Players can scoop runaway balls out of the lake using a retrieval net similar to the kind used for swimming pools.
You don’t need to book a room at the hotel to try it out. The court is open to the public and rents for $65 per hour, with space for up to four players at a time. Reservations are made online, and the rental includes paddles, balls, and life jackets, so showing up empty-handed is completely fine.
After a game, players can head straight to Dock & Drink, the hotel’s seasonal dockside restaurant located right next to the court. The waterfront spot is accessible by boat, and diners arriving on the water can take advantage of up to three hours of complimentary moorage while they eat.
