Amtrak is offering a fall fare discount on select trips booked by Sept. 30, 2026. The “Falling Fares” Amtrak sale provides at least 25% off the Flex fare amount for eligible coach tickets. Note that the discount is for travel taking place from Oct. 14 through Dec. 17.
For Seattle travelers, the offer applies to two Amtrak routes: the Coast Starlight and the Empire Builder. Blackout dates include Nov. 11 and Nov. 20–30.
The Coast Starlight runs daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, with stops including Portland, Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area and Santa Barbara. The full Seattle–Los Angeles trip takes about 35 hours. The route is known for views of the Pacific coastline, Cascade Range and other landscapes along the West Coast.
The Empire Builder connects the Pacific Northwest with Chicago. From Seattle, the route travels through Spokane and across Montana and North Dakota before continuing through Minneapolis-St. Paul to Chicago. The full journey takes about 46 hours. Travelers can also connect at Spokane for Portland service.
There are a few things to keep in mind before you book. The promotion cannot be combined with other discounts, and fares and schedules can change. There are restrictions on changing and canceling tickets: changes are not permitted under the promotional fare, whereas cancellations are allowed before departure but are subject to a 50% cancellation fee. Travelers considering a fall trip should check the fare rules, schedule and availability before booking.
