Seattle travelers just got a lot closer to Italy. Alaska Airlines has officially launched the city’s first-ever nonstop flight to Rome, marking a big step as the hometown carrier expands into Europe.
The new seasonal route between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport runs daily from April 28 through October 23. For Seattleites, that means no more layovers on the way to the Eternal City: just one long-haul flight and you’re there.
Flight timing is designed to make the most of your trip. Depart Seattle at 5:30 p.m., land in Rome at 1:15 p.m. the next day, and you’ve still got a full afternoon to grab a gelato and start wandering. Heading home, flights leave Rome at 3:25 p.m. and touch down back in Seattle at 5:45 p.m.
The route is operated on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and Alaska is using the launch to show off its upgraded international experience. The plane features 34 new business class Suites designed for long-haul comfort. The business class Suites experience offers a more elevated vibe than your typical domestic flight, with multi-course meals, a dessert cart featuring Salt & Straw, and amenity kits stocked with Salt & Stone products. There’s even cozy bedding from Filson for a nice local touch at 35,000 feet.
This Rome route is just the beginning of Alaska’s broader international push. The airline has already rolled out similar service to South Korea and plans to expand to London and Tokyo soon as well.
